Getting removed from a catalogue mailing
list
It's the experience of many people to be continually stuck
on mailing lists. Once they order a product online they soon
find themselves receiving sales leaflets, catalogues and other
junk mail through their postbox. Even if they select the option
not to receive any mail or electronic mail. Even the deceased
are not spared. The problem is that twenty five billion pounds
is generated in the UK from postage sales. Therefore it's
hard for any company not to resist the urge to enter this
lucrative market.
The best way is to call each catalogue company and demand
that you are removed from their mailing lists. The first thing
you should do is carefully examine the order form. In the
small print somewhere should be a telephone number you can
ring to be removed from their mailing list. This should be
a toll free number, but that's not always the case. The customer
service staff may do their best to persuade you to stay on
the list, most certainly they will ask the reason for wanting
to be removed. It's best to keep your cool, and carefully
explain that none of their product interest you, and you have
no plans to every buy another product from the company. Keep
the catalogue handy when you ring, companies usually print
a unique tracking code on each booklet.
The code will enable the company to more easily remove your
details from their database. The fact is these company will
be happy to remove you from their list. It costs a good deal
of money to send out thick coloured glossy catalogues, and
it's a complete waste of money if they go to people with no
interest in the content. Once removed it can take a few months
before it works into the system. So do not get worried if
your still receiving junk mail for a few months. If you really
haven't the time to phone companies up then there are third
part services which will do the work for you. You may have
to pay an annual fee however.
Tips
- Do not put your address on any surveys. These companies
usually pass on your details to marketing companies. Surveys
are great way to narrow down the subject matter of junk mail
to send you.
- Online social network websites, surveys and forms are a
growth area for marketing companies. Read the privacy policy
of any online company which stores your personal details.
- Whenever you order a product online make sure to tick the
option not to receive any further offers from the companies.
If they persist in sending out your details ring them or ask
to be removed from their list. Or a longshot can be to remove
your address and telephone number from your profile page on
their website. This will not always be effective however.
